Wenger expecting Reds test

After a week in which the Gunners' hopes of both FA Cup and Champions League glory were sensationally dashed, the Frenchman knows how crucial it is for his side to return to winning ways in the Premiership.

Wenger said: "At this stage of the season, it's a great blow and it will be difficult to lift the players, but it's a great test of our mental strength," said the Gunners boss.

"There is a possibility (that Arsenal will end the season without a trophy) as we are far from having won the Premiership and we have a big weekend in front of us now.

"To deal well with the Liverpool game will be vital. It will be difficult to recover but it is a good test of character.

"We must show that we are about more than just winning games when it is going well. We must show that we have the togetherness when things are not going well.

"To win the Premiership is something fantastic but it is far from being done. The most difficult part of it is still in front of us.

"In the second half against Chelsea, the whole team looked tired. The FA Cup semi-final affected us more than we had thought.

"But we now have some players coming back. We want to survive over the weekend now and then maybe we can recover a bit and come back."
