Anelka's controversial departure from Arsenal to Real Madrid back in 1999 caused a huge storm and he's certain to receive a cold welcome from the Highbury faithful on Sunday.

Talking about his return, Wenger said: "Nicolas Anelka is not my biggest worry at the moment, the most important thing is my own team.

"I hope he bounces back because he is a big talent and I respect what he has done for us in the past. But my main priority is that my team is motivated for Sunday more than anything else.

"People ask me what kind of reception he will get and I believe our fans will be like I am. They won't forget what he's done for the club, but the biggest importance is beating Liverpool.

"The main priority for the fans will be to push our team to win the game."
