"Gerard is going to have to be patient and he is finding that difficult. His priority is to get 100 per cent fit because in this job, you need 100 per cent commitment.
"The doctors have told him that and he has to accept it. You cannot be just half committed because, as a Premiership manager, it does not work. You start the day by thinking, 'I will only do that or that', but you end up doing everything."
