For Liverpool, controversies apart, their campaign is bubbling nicely. The Worthington Cup is in the bag, their Uefa Cup run continues and their mid-term blues appear to be over.

If Liverpool have been reproached for being too stuffy, they can make amends in a helter-skelter end to the season as they race for a Champions League place. In their first victory at White Hart Lane since 1996, they lost the opener, reacted with three goals and then held out after Teddy Sheringham scored for Tottenham.

Goals by Liverpool's England trio of Michael Owen, Emile Heskey and Steven Gerrard kept the Worthington Cup winners on target for a place in the Champions League and spared goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek from another costly embarrassment.
