White resignation represents club's integrity

And with an emphatic three nil victory over Bordeaux on Tuesday, perhaps Reds fans should take a moment to consider just what a magnificent club is based at L4.

Noel White's comments, which appeared unattributed in a national newspaper, hurt the club, the fans and, one would presume, the manager. "It is not the Liverpool way" was a quote which appeared again and again, in various different guises.

But it is testament to the integrity of this great club that not only were the comments condemned universally, but that White, who had served the club for 21 years, has tendered his resignation.

Indeed, one suspects Mr White might regret ever broaching the subject with the Daily Mirror journalist who broke the story. I, for one, feel some sympathy for White. But correctly, he offered his resignation, and the club can continue to move forward.

And as White himself put it, "I feel the honourable course is to resign. Indeed, my guiding principle dictates that this is the only course."

And so it was. But perhaps we should take a moment to consider this club we all support. Not only do we support a team of recent European Champions, a team with legendary local players, but we have a board which will not be bought out, which will not be swayed. I believe they have the best interests of our club at heart. We are not being taken over by an all-American all star gang of businessmen, nor oil rich Russians. We are Liverpool FC, we have maintained our integrity and the Liverpool way. And I am proud of that.
