Wolves won the first battle to get the game on despite very wet weather conditions. With a large crowd getting behind them, they started at a pace, and it took just seven minutes for Hannah Smith to get on the scoresheet. She received a through ball from midfield, and ran at the defence to finish well with a cracking right-footed shot.

Right from Liverpool's re-start, Wolves piled on the pressure, and on 11 minutes forced a corner. Hayley Everiss swung the ball in and Anne Blackham rose up to head it firmly into the back of the net to make it 2-0 to Wolves.

Liverpool started to put their game together, and shot just wide on 14 minutes before having a goal disallowed on 16 minutes for a foul on the keeper. Just 2 minutes later, Wolves' Hannah Williams cleared off the line after Liverpool were though on goal.

Wolves were battling hard, but on 22 minutes Liverpool were awarded a dubious penalty as Wolves' keeper Natalie Hall was judged to have brought down their player. Kelly Davies stepped up to convert the penalty kick.

It was Wolves' turn to be under pressure, and in the 27th minute, Gail Formston forced the ball into the net following a goalmouth scramble to send the teams in level at half time.

The second half was quite even, with chances at both ends, but neither side managing to make the breakthrough. Chances fell to Nicole Ledgister and Hannah Smith but they failed to convert, while Natalie Hall made some excellent stops in the Wolves goal.

Extra time started with Wolves having much of the play in the first 10 minutes, and Captain Chloe Jones shooting just wide. It was a lucky Liverpool break which saw the visitors take the lead on 100 minutes with a goal for Shelly James, and for the first time in the game Liverpool went ahead.

Wolves continued to push in the second period of extra time, with Hannah Smith and Nicole Ledgister both coming close in wet, muddy and tiring conditions. Liverpool defended well and held firm to record the victory and passage through to the next round.

Wolves' Joint Manager Dave Ball said: "I was really proud of the players who battled from start to finish in difficult conditions. I'd like to thank the staff at Bilston Town for their hard work in getting the game on, and the large crowd of supporters who came out in the rain to cheer on the girls."
