Worthington is no small beer for Houllier

Liverpool have fielded weakened teams in the previous rounds of the competition, but a trip to Villa Park may see this policy change.

He says: "All the teams I have put out in this competition this season have been strong but this one will go for the win. We are going for the win. Winning the Worthington Cup acted as a springboard for the rest of our season when we won the treble.

"The game is all about silverware and wining trophies is what the players think of. The good thing about being a successful side is that you are in lots of tournaments and the lads have an opportunity to bounce back.

"The best preparation for the derby game is to play to our full potential and unleash all our power."

Liverpool, though, will be without Dietmar Hamann and captain Sami Hyypia could also miss out.

"Didi has got a lump on his shin and will need a CT scan on it. It's been like that for some time but he played through it. Then he took a kick in the first half against Sunderland and couldn't carry on. He told me before the game that he felt something but he knew it was not the time to leave the ship, but he has no choice now.

"We will have to see with Sami. If he is okay then he will play but I'm not sure yet. You can't expect players who have played in every game not to need a break."
