Wright, who is now manager at Chester City, has mixed loyalties, but believes Liverpool will win.
"I hope Liverpool do well," he said. "I have lots of friends there and loved playing in front of those supporters.
"Southampton don't concede many and have done very well but let's hope Liverpool can turn it around.
"I don't think they can win the championship because there are too many points between them and the top three, but to get into the Champions League is of major importance for Liverpool this year.
"I think it will be a tight game but Liverpool should win."
