"I still keep in touch with Luis because we started our Liverpool careers near enough on the same day and built up a great friendship," he said.
"I know he was happy when this draw was made and also that he's looking forward to playing at Anfield again. I'm sure he'll get a good reception back there in a couple of weeks time.
"He did a great job for Liverpool and made a big impact during his time here. You have to know Luis to understand that he could do great things on the field and then at other times you'd find it hard to explain what he was doing. He brought something different to the club and that is why he is still loved.
"He's in and out of the team at the moment but I know he and his family are happy in Spain and he is enjoying his time with Madrid."
