Johnson knows only too well that his third division outfit have the chance to push the Frenchman closer to the exit door by inflicting a memorable FA Cup defeat upon the six-time winners in front of a passionate home support and millions of afternoon viewers on television.

The former Latvia manager would relish such a success against English football's most successful club side, yet he still has time to offer kind words to a fellow manager during difficult times.

Johnson said: "All of us have a managers' camaraderie.

"And we have all been in the situations where we are lower than a snake's belly and as high as a kite - that's the nature of the game.

"Most times you need time to turn it round and Gerard has brought some players into Liverpool and they are all his players so what's the point in him moving on?

"It's going to take four years to move it all round anyway. Sometimes boards of directors have to have a bit of faith in their judgement that they made in the first place and let it go a little while. Alex Ferguson's situation is a perfect example - he was one game away from the sack one day and look what he's done.

"You have to give it time and you have to believe the manager is doing the right job.

"It's always sad when a manager loses his job and I don't think he deserves to lose his job - but when you are Liverpool they expect a lot."

Will Liverpool beat Yeovil?
