The highly-rated Scotland youth international, who can operate as both a left winger and as a striker, impressed the Liverpool management with a series of sparkling displays for the under-17 and under-19 academy teams last season.

Foy will join former academy colleagues Darren Potter and Zak Whitbread - both of whom made the step up to first-team training earlier this season - at Melwood for the forthcoming campaign.

Under-19 manager John Owens feels his young charge will prove his worth alongside the likes of Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama-Pongole for the Liverpool second-string this season.

Owens said: "I'm pleased for Robbie. He is a good prospect. He is still eligible to play for my under-19 team because he is only 17 but will no doubt be a regular for the reserve team."
