With Gerard Houllier awaiting a day in court as the North East club continue to seek compensation for Liverpool's decision to trigger a £5.5m get-out clause in the German's contract, the 32-year-old feels his move away from the Riverside proved a bitter disappointment.

Ziege said: "I understand that people got angry. It was a hard decision, I had a fantastic time at Middlesbrough. Maybe sometimes I regret it as it was difficult for me in Liverpool."
