The former Anfield defender shares a close friendship with Babbel, a friendship based upon time spent together at Anfield and in the German International set-up.

But while passing on his best wishes to Babbel, Ziege spoke of his disappointment at having to sit the game out through injury.

He said: "I know everything about his situation and I hope he's coming back soon. He has told me he is fine and I'd like to see him back in the Liverpool side.
"He has played a lot of reserve games and he told me everything has gone fine. A player like Markus you always need in your team. He's come back from long-term illness and I wish him well and hope he gets back in the team as soon as possible.

"I am a bit disappointed and wish I could play at Liverpool, but these things happen in football and I cannot go.

"I think the lads will do a magnificent job at Anfield though. I haven't seen Liverpool a lot this season so I can't judge too much. They always seem to defend well so I think it is difficult to win against Liverpool."
