Telling it as it is....
First of all I would like to apologise for the lack of updates on my column. As it is my final year at secondary school I have been weighed down by GCSE coursework and mock exams, so it has been difficult for me to find the time, but thankfully I have now got my mocks out of the way and I have completed most of my coursework so I will hopefully be able to concentrated on my column and my updates will become much more regular.

Now I have got that out of the way I can get back to the important issues, the football.

Since the last time I updated my column Liverpool were on a total high, we'd beaten Manchester United and we were at the top of the table and about 9 points clear of them and 6 points clear of the other championship contenders, with games in hand. But in the couple of months I haven't updated my column we have gone from a total high and up there challenging for the title to a complete downer.

Fair enough at the moment we are still in a position to push for the championship, but if we carry on playing like we have been we have no chance.

Liverpool as a team just prove what a funny and weird game football can be. They have gone from been top of the table 9 points clear of Manchester United to been knocked out of the Worthington Cup and the FA Cup, to 4th position in the league with no games in hand, and somehow Manchester United have managed to go 2 points clear of us and at the top of the table. That might not sound like a tragedy but how can we go from 9 points clear of them too them catching us up and over taking us.

Although Manchester United went through a bad spell, it sounds awful to say but it looks as though there going to win it again, an its starting to get really boring, but the difference between the scum and us is they seem to be able to do something we don't seem capable of doing, and that is beating the lesser teams of the Premiership.

Our bad spell began at Chelsea when we got thrashed 4-0, which was totally embarrassing to watch, and then we went on to get beat again and this time by Arsenal who beat us 2-1. After these two defeats we looked to get back into the swing of things again by beating Aston Villa 2-1, but then we hit the same problem we seem to have had for a few season's now, we couldn't pull of results against the lesser teams of the league. First of all we drew 1-1 to Westham, then we again drew 1-1 with Bolton and then lost 2-0 to Southampton, that dropped us seven points with having to play Arsenal next again, this time we managed to pull off a point with a 1-1 draw, but then we again drew 1-1 to Southampton. This lost us 11 points in about 7 games, these are points we should have taken.

And then just to show what a weird game football really is, last week we again beat Manchester United at Old Trafford. With friend of the site Danny Murphy again being the one to grab the goal to beat the scum 1-0. Although this was a fantastic victory and I am still buzzing about it now, seen as though it is the fifth time we've beaten them in a row, it really winds me up knowing we can beat a team as good as Manchester United but we struggle against teams like Westham and Bolton and lose to teams like Southampton. I just can't work out any sense in that what so ever, is it because when we face Manchester United we try our best and when we face teams like Southampton we go out thinking we are too good for them and end up stuffing up. I dunno it's probably something I'll never get to understand. I just hope we get our act together and set out to win against which ever team we are playing if its Manchester United or Blackburn it should always be 100% effort.

There was more disappointment for us the other weekend as we were knocked out of the FA Cup by Arsenal who we beat in the Final last season, they managed to beat us 1-0 and I was very disappointed, all I can say to that is now we can't collect that trophy this year there should be no excuse to fully push for the premiership title because so far what seemed to be an excellent season isn't turning out very well so far, but we've still got away to go so you never know.

On the positive side we've just beat Leicester in the Premiership 1-0 which makes it two wins in a row, and it was a relief to see Heskey score because we seem to have to rely on Michael Owen too much to grab our goals, and we can't always expect so much from one player and now Heskey has got his goal, which is he has only managed to grab one goal in 32 club matches he has hopefully got his confidence back and will get back into the goal scoring mood.

Anyway our next game is against Leeds United and hopefully it'll be a good one, to get us back into the winning ways that we were in before December.

YNWA.
