'Red Alert' updated

Last updated : 02 October 2002 By Donna

Well I would start this off by explaining my lack of updates recently but I can't, Ill save that till the end, as at this moment in time I am feeling so p***ed off its unbelievable. I'm not complaining about the premiership because so far I think we are doing really well, but come on what was going on against FC Basle in the champions league. It really gets me going when we seem to be totally in control of a match and still some how manage to finish with a draw 1-1, especially when it was at Anfield as well.

No bull, No blind faith, Just as it is...
I think it took us about 25 minutes to take the lead by Baros, who you would never have thought was frozen out for a year, he looks fantastic full of energy and seems to find the target with so much confidence. But before the goal, Riise had already hit the crossbar twice, the first one about a minute into the game. After that I thought we were going to cruise through the game but I thought wrong.

With their only decent chance of the whole game they managed to equalise in the 41st minute, which I have to admit left me gob-smacked, but I thought there was still another half to go.

The second half was the same we created chance after chance after chance and it just wasn't going to happen, it seemed Michael Owen's goal scoring curse had hit the whole team. Owen himself was substituted in the 75th minute following another game without a goal, I've always been a fan of Owen. At the moment I think he is working so hard but it just isn't happening for him, I find myself cringing every time he gets the ball as I seem to be feeling nervous for him as he approaches the goal, as if I know he is going to miss, which I know sounds awful but its how it is at the moment. I don't know what it is that has knocked his confidence but I hope he sorts it out soon, because we all know when he starts scoring he is hard to stop.

Any way the game ended with a draw an that's 1 point in two champions league games, so if we have any chance of qualifying we have to start winning, and not play anything like we did against Valencia - they totally out classed us they made us look like a conference team, it was that bad.

Our season in the premiership has started off really well as we still haven't lost a game and we are in second place two points behind Arsenal. The only thing I have to complain about is throwing away three points on three occasions, first against Blackburn rovers when we were leading 2-1 and they equalised in the last 10 minutes, secondly against Newcastle which finished 2-2, and then against Birmingham where we were leading 2-0 and it finished 2-2. Hopefully we won't be throwing away any more points, and we will carry on unbeaten, and Owen will resume to his old self again, a scoring machine.

As I was saying at the beginning, I would like to apologise for my lack of updates and promise there will be regular updates from now on. This year I have finished my GCSE's which I was working hard towards and I achieved the results I wanted, to gain my place at college where I have now settled down and will be able to carry on with my column as normal!

Take care....
