Southampton 2-0 Liverpool - fan match report

I agree that the Premiership is the hardest league to win and there's never an easy game - take tonight as a prime example. The two teams differ so much in terms of quality - on paper - so why can't we convert this superiority to 3 points?

Why? Because we're a one man team. I agree that we have quality all over the park. The best 2 centre halves in the country in Hyypia and Henchoz, 2 dependable defenders in Carragher and Riise (why he didn't start tonight I don't know) and the most under-rated and unnoticed player in the league in Didi Hamman. I don't need to say anything about Michael because we all know what he can do. But we really need to dip into the market for one or two decent wingers. Smicer and Berger are so ineffective at times that we may as well be playing with 9 men. Heskey is in dire need of goals and his performances are waning because of this lack of confidence. We are so narrow at times that our play is far too predictable. We can't keep relying on Owen to get us a win. Others have to help the cause and that just isn't happening. Anelka is showing signs of promise but why there's no results from so much attacking quality is hard to understand.

We need someone who can dig in that extra 10% in a game that we're desperate to win. We need a McMahon, someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck and turn things. Undoubtedly, you may say, we have Jari who can see things others can't on the pitch but I really don't think our style of play - be it dictated by Thommo or GH - suits his game. Personally, I think Jari should start every game but I'm not in charge.

And although we're still in with a chance of taking the title, Arsenal away is no place to start and get your title ambitions back on track. The next 5 games are critical and we really need to see what sort of character this current Liverpool side possesses.
