Southampton 2-0 Liverpool - fan match report

Last updated : 09 January 2002 By Jack Kelly (Kop Talk Reader)
Their almost insurmountalble lead at the top of the premiership had been gradually eroded and a new-year pick me up was in order.

However, the pre-match betting odds quickly looked accurate as the reds played without conviction from the start.

There was a clear lack of organisation with young Stephen Wright often exposed at the back.

Liverpools linkup play was ineffective with the final pass often inaccurate.

There was no sense of purpose and it appeared as if the players were unsure about their exact role in a seemingly makeshift team.

The winning belief that was so absent today needs to be quickly rediscovered if a repeat performance at Arsenal on Sunday is to be avoided.
