Liverpool's plans to build a new state of the art stadium in nearby Stanley Park has been met with mixed feelings, with many wanting to abandon plans to move and instead develop the Main Stand in the current stadium.

Rush said: "It will be sad to see the place close, but they are not moving far, and it will still be called Anfield.

"I think most fans will realise that you have to have revenue to compete these days, and the club have looked into all possibilities, and this is the best one."

Lawrensen added: "If it is not possible to develop the current stadium, then it makes sense to move, because they need a bigger ground.

"Because it is still in Anfield, then I think it will keep its links with the past, and it should keep much of the tradition and history."
